Why can’t my LCD monitor display its native resolution correctly?
My widescreen LCD monitor does not display its native resolution of 1280×800 correctly. The display is crushed horizontally, and adjusting the size and position of my display using the monitor’s controls is ineffective.
The monitor itself only seems to recognize 800×600, 1024×768 and 1280×800. Any other resolutions cause the monitor to set itself to one of the three mentioned (normally 800×600) and also causes scrolling to occur.
Try updating your graphics driver. With the right driver, you will usually have more than those 3 settings.
The sharpest image is displayed at native resolution. Most LCD screens can display at higher/lower than native resolution. However, a certain degree of pixel distortion sets in.
