can you use the HDMI output on a computer for a monitor?
a lot of the new desktops i see online have a HDMI output on the video card… can that be used for themonitorr (like hook up a TV through HDMI and use the TV for your monitor) as opposed to using the standard VGA hook up?
let me explain… i have a TV that i am not using… it would make a wonderful moniter… but it doesnt have a VGA input… so if i buy a desk top with HDMI output could i use that TV instead of waisting it and buying a moniter half the size and resolution?
If the monitor has HDMI input or a DVI-D input then yes.
If it is a DVI-D input then check if the monitor supports HDCP encryption. For the majority of things this does not matter, but if you want to watch movies that have content protection then the HDCP encryption built into the HDMI output may be turned on. If the monitor does not support it then you will not be able to watch the movie.
This is much more of an issue for Blu-Ray players, etc. than for computers.
