1080p lcd ps3 cable question?
Okay so, ive been looking at new monitors to buy for the computer instead of tvs and i came across this one
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824254026
and was wondering if the included hdmi to dvi-d cable would show the ps3 graphics to its full 1080p or i potential? or would i have to just buy a straight hdmi cable?
also does this monitor seem legit cause ive read many reviews but barely any say games on it
much appreciated
Before you go out spending money: know, that in order to see a difference between 720p and 1080p (let alone 1080p vs. 1080i), your TV or Monitor must be at least 110” large, if you are sitting more than 1.5 metres away from it.
If you don’t believe me, do the math yourself.
A “perfect” human eye can resolve two pixels that are 0,2mm apart from a one metre distance.
This means: In order to see the difference between a 720p picture and a 1080p picture on a 32” TV, you must sit *closer* than 20cm in front of it.
Or the other way around: if you want to sit at a comfortable 1.5 or 2 metres distance from your TV, your TV must be higher than 2.8 Metres and 3.3 metres wide in order to see an advantage of a 1080p picture.
Look at the site below for an Excel sheet, that will give you the perfect TV size depending on viewing distance or highest resolution that your eye can resolve at a given distance and TV size.
So you could save money if you don’t have to buy a 1080p set, since you can’t see the difference anyways, because it’s smaller than 110”.
But be warned: A lot of games still switch down to 720p, as this is the highest resolution possible in this game (Resistance FoM does this for example).
So choose wisely if the money for the 1080p set is really worth it.
As for your cables:
Since the HDMI cable is fully DVI compliant and both can use the HDCP copy protection fro High definition movies, there is no difference between a HDMI cable and the HDMI to DVI adapter.
