windows 7 monitor desktop extension problem?
i have 2 monitors which both have only 1 VGA port each but my video card on my desktop computer has a VGA and DVI port, i use the VGA port with a VGA cable for my main monitor and it works perfect just like it should. Recently i purchased a DVI-D Single link cable and an DVI to VGA adapter so i could use the DVI cable with my other VGA monitor but when i come to extend my desktop onto the monitor that is using the DVI cable and adapter it detects it according to my computer but does not display anything it just stays on standby. is this because of the cable that i am using can only carry a digital signal and not analog. if this is the case should i go and buy a DVI-A or DVI-I as i know both these dvi cables carry both digital and analog signals.
thanks in advance 10 POINTS FOR BEST ANSWER
The pinouts on a DVI-D cable do not support an analog signal. You can’t use that cable to connect to a VGA-only monitor.
Your video card might have come with a DVI-I-to-VGA adapter included. Why not use that and a standard VGA monitor cable?
